Microsoft Outlook 2000 Setup

To show the exact settings for your email adddress, enter your email address below.

1. Launch Outlook 2000

  • Use your mouse to click on the Start menu.
  • Mouseover Programs to display the secondary Programs menu.
  • Mouseover Outlook 2000 and click once to launch the program.
  • If Outlook 2000 does not appear on the Programs menu, review your software installation process.

2. Open the Internet Setup Wizard

  • Once the program is active click on the Tools menu.
  • Mouseover Services and click once to open the Internet Setup Wizard.

3. Select Information Services

  • Check the radio button to Use the following information services.
  • Check Internet E-mail from the list.
  • Click Next.

4. Setup Mail Account

  • Click once on the Setup Mail Account button to launch the Services dialog and configure Internet Email services.

5. Add New Internet Email Service

  • Selct Internet E-mail - Other ISP Email from the list of choices.
  • Click once on the Add... button to display the Add Service to Profile window.
  • Even if you already have an Internet E-mail service defined, you should continue to add a new service for email.
    This will not disrupt any existing email account(s).

6. Add Service to Profile Window

  • Select Internet Email from the choices in the window.
  • Click OK to open the Mail Properties dialog.

7. Mail Properties: General Tab

  • Click the General Tab if it is not already the active tab..
  • Enter yourdomain.com in the Mail Account Field.
  • In the Name Field enter your name as you would like it to appear in the From field when you send messages.
  • Enter Your Company Name in the Organization Field.
  • Enter youraddress@yourdomain.com in the E-mail address field.
  • Similarly enter youraddress@yourdomain.com in the Reply address field.


8. Mail Properties: Servers Tab

  • Click the Servers Tab to make it the active tab.
  • Enter POP3 under Server Information as the incoming mail server type.
  • Enter mail.yourdomain.com in the incoming mail (POP3) field.
  • Enter mail.yourdomain.com again in the outgoing mail (SMTP) field.
  • Enter youraddress@yourdomain.com for your Account Name.
  • In the Password field type the password for your email account.
  • Make sure the box to Log on using Secure Password Authentication remains unchecked.
  • Verify the information and click OK.

9. Finish

  • After clicking OK in step 8 the Add Services to Profile dialog seen below should be displayd.
  • Click OK on the dialog to save your settings.
  • Click OK on the Services menu box.
  • You will need to close and reopen Outlook before the services you have added will be started by Outlook.
  • Click once on the File in the menu bar, select Exit and click once to close Outlook.
  • The next time you reopen Outlook you will be able to use your new email account.

Autocheck Messages

Now that your new email account has been setup, you will want to tell the server to check for new messages. The following steps will take you through the process.

10. Open the Options Window

  • With Outlook 2000 open click on the Tools menu.
  • Mouseover Options... and click once to open the Options window.

11. Options Window: Mail Delivery Tab

  • Click on the Mail Delivery Tab to make it the active tab.
  • Make sure the box to Check for new messages every is checked.
  • Enter 15 minutes (or less) by either typing directly or using the arrows.
